The Old Store
A large house extension situated within the Deal Conservation Area.
The client’s brief required the scheme to link their existing cottage into a new extension constructed on an adjoining piece of land, which used to commercial garage/repair workshop. The new building is constructed behind the old garage walls thus creating a hidden private courtyard garden and keeping development low impact in the conservation area.
The design philosophy for the scheme was focused on forming a large open and light space with large windows for natural light and a gallery style bedroom. The proposed bedroom on the first floor was designed to have a modern balcony looking down over the lounge onto the ground floor. The east side of the building has full height windows allowing light in and views into the garden at all levels.
The building has a modern design but uses more traditional materials of natural timber, slates and bricks to compliment the surrounding context.
Building works were completed on site January 2015.
