Stephen Ball

Stephen co-founded the practice of Hartwell Architects in 1989. With its incorporation into HMY Stephen provides continuity to clients as a Senior Architect.
Recently he has been directly involved with many of the social and educational projects covered on this web site, including Dartford West Campus, Walmer Science College, Eastchurch Primary School. Currently he is managing the architectural aspects of the regeneration of the Port of Dover.
Alan Found
BA (Hons) Dip Arch MA RIBA
Alan co-founded the practice of Hartwell Architects in 1989. With its incorporation into HMY Alan provides continuity to clients as a Senior Architect.
He has been lead partner on a a wide range of projects including overseeing the programme of Works at Simon Langton Grammar School for Boys. Alan has recently completed the new state of the art factory for GE Aviation near Southampton. Alan also oversees the quality management and CDM responsibilities for the Dover office.
Stephen Coomber
BA (Hons) Dip Arch RIBA
Stephen joined the practice in 1995 and has been a full equity partner since 2000. Stephen is the lead Partner at the Canterbury office. where the office specialisms include Healthcare, Special Needs and University projects. Responsibilities include Health & Safety, financial control and resourcing. He is able to assist clients with Principal Designer services.
He is a member of Kent Constructing Excellence committee, former chair of RIBA West Kent Branch and occasional visiting studio critic University of Kent.
John McCormack
BSc (Hons) B. Arch RIBA
A founding partner, John has been with Hazle McCormack Young since 1984 and is responsible for the financial administration of the Practice and resource programming.
John has particular interests in educational and special needs sectors and has extensive contract and site experience.
James Robson
BA (Hons) Dip Arch RIBA
James joined HMY in 2005 and has been a full equity partner since 2007 with responsibilities for Human Resources, Business Development, marketing and design review.
Prior to joining HMY James co-founded a planning and development company in Brighton and has worked with a number of high profile Architects. His commitment to HMY has reinforced his particular interest in school, housing and environmental design and its links with wider infrastructure and townscape.
James Galpin
BA (Hons) Dip Arch RIBA
James joined HMY in 1999 and has been a full equity partner since 2007 with responsibilities for Professional Indemnity and use of CAD/BIM facilities and IT systems within the practice.
James has a particular interest in sustainability and leads the practices drive for PassivHaus projects where possible. He is a former Chair of RIBA West Kent Branch and Treasurer for the South East Regional Council of the RIBA
David Hall
BA (Hons) Dip Arch RIBA
David has recently become Partner having joined HMY in 2009 and as an Associate since 2016. He has responsibilities for Quality Assurance and Technical Standards within the Practice. He is able to assist clients with Principal Designer services.
Having been heavily involved in leading the detailed design and construction phase workstages for many years this has become David specialism within the practice and he has a particular interest in Contract Administration and Construction phase management.
David has worked on many of the large projects within the practice in the Education, Aerospace/Military, Workplace and Healthcare sectors.
Victoria Pope
BA (Hons) DipArch RIBA
Victoria is an Associate having joined HMY in 2005 and has responsibilities for resourcing and project management in the Canterbury & Dover offices.
Experienced with residential masterplanning and education projects Victoria is currently designing 2 new mixed housing developments on brownfield sites in Hastings and residential element of masterplan for Rye Harbour. She has recently successfully completed Phase 1 classroom development at St Edmund’s School Canterbury and The Foreland School Special needs new build school for ages 2-19. She is currently Vice Chair of RIBA Canterbury Branch.
Trish Hollick
Dip BDS, Dip SIAD
Trish has been a core member of staff at Hartwell Architects since she joined in 2000, with a broad background of educational projects across Kent prior to this.
Trish has both lead and assisted in many significant office projects which include Star Centre at Simon Langton Grammar School for Boys, healthcare schemes for the NHS Trust in Medway and various residential schemes.
She also assists others in the office as well as running maintenance works, extensions and refurbishment works in differing sectors.
Lezandri van Rooyen
BA (Hons) M.Arch
Lezandri joined the practice in 2013 and achieved her RIBA Part 2 from UCA, Canterbury in 2016.
Since joining the practice, Lezandri has been involved with a number of our education, residential and healthcare projects. She provides important project support and is design lead on some of our live residential projects, as well as involved in the master planning of Dover Western Docks Revival.
Lezandri assists in the production of 3D models, presentations, tender submissions and document quality control.
