The Practice

Hartwell Architects was established in 1989 by architects Stephen Ball & Alan Found. Since then we have gained a reputation for good design undertaken with integrity, honesty and transparency at every level. We undertake a wide range of projects both large and small.

Design

We are passionate about good design, creating exciting, interesting and beautiful buildings. But beauty is more than skin deep. The building also needs to fulfil a huge range of functions well, including being easy to maintain, sustainable, and to a budget.

Relationship

We place a strong emphasis on client relationship, with a principal of establishing and meeting client needs rather than imposing our solutions. We try to offer a friendly and approachable, as well as professional service on all projects.

Construction

On traditional contracts part of our service includes tendering to suitable contractors, setting up the building contract, and inspecting the construction phase of the project. Being a well established practice we have good working relationships with many of the contractors in the area and will always tender those we consider most suitable for each individual contract.

The Team

Working well together is essential. It’s not just having complimentary gifts that ensures a good working relationship, it’s also about getting on well, sharing a passion for good design and enjoying what we do.

Project Teams

We regularly act as Lead Consultant for medium and large projects and are able to put together an appropriate design team for a project. These include: Structural Engineers, Service Engineers and Quantity Surveyors. We can also arrange for specialists such as: environmental, acoustic, and flood risk, to advise the team.

Quality

Both the practice partners are chartered architects, registered with the Architects Registration Board (ARB) and members of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA).

The practice also belongs to the RIBA Chartered Practice Scheme which sets quality standards which must be met, to reassure clients that they are dealing with committed professionals.
